Coach "D" has over 30 years experience as an accomplished softball player and coach. She has been with Missouri DAWGS Athletics since it was founded by her husband, Scott, in 2002.
Decker began her softball career as a pitcher in 1975 when she was 5 years old. She quickly emerged as one of the top pitchers in the area. By the time she was 18 she was sought after by many Division I colleges. Decker chose to marry and started a family instead. Shortly after the birth of her first child, she was recruited and became part of the inaugural squad at Brown Mackie College, Salina, Kansas. She played for two years at the school under Head Coach Francis Flax. Decker continued her collegiate career at Kansas Wesleyan University after the birth of her second child. During her career, Decker set and held many national pitching and batting records.
Twenty years later, Decker was asked to return to Brown Mackie College as the Interim - Head Women's Softball Coach. She commuted 6 hours twice weekly to be a part of the BMC program once more. Coach D recruited many talented athletes from the Texas areas of Amarillo, Texarkana, Pharr, Harlingen and San Antonio. Decker is most proud of the relationships she developed with her players and cherishes to this day.
Over the years Decker has provided private lessons in pitching, hitting and fielding for softball junkies all across the SW Missouri area. She continues to have a passion for the game of softball and works with young players by providing private lessons. When not on the ball field, she can be found assisting as a coach in the gym.
Decker's husband, Scott, founded the DAWGS program when their sons decided they wanted to play competitive basketball. Their commitment is to create an environment that puts players in a position to showcase their talents and further their opportunity of continuing their basketball career at the collegiate level. This vision has grown to include softball.
